It's a party! It's a PAR-TAY (and you get presents!!)

Insane looking picture of me originally found in this account.

Welcome! Welcome one and all!

This is my moment, this is my miracle (name that movie) for Lo! Behold!

'Tis a day of joy and gladness!

Today, I...MOI.. am featured by the venerable institution which is: The Secret Is in the Sauce In other words I am the featured SITS blogger. Which means that more people then usual will stop by my blog today. People we lovingly refer to as SITStahs!. The Sitstahs are IN THE HOUSE yo!

Or this is my hope. The fact that it is 2 days before Christmas Eve and the SITStahs might have more pressing things to do then stop by a stranger's blog has not escaped me, and it makes me doubly grateful to those of you that do. THANK YOU!! (Does that sound desperate or gracious? I'm on the fence.)

For the rest of you out there who are frantically scrubbing the bathroom floor with a toothbrush. or using my strategic organizational method of shoving piles of junk into grocery bags in preparation for your mother in law's impending visit, angrily asking yourself why you left it until now even though you promised yourself a month ago that you'd have everything gleaming with a week to spare, during which you'd give yourself a manicure and smile benignly at your family by the light of the Christmas tree....I send you my condolences. And my empathy. This too shall pass. Come back when it does.

Speaking of toothbrushes. You may want to read this cautionary tale

So hey, did you know it is 2 days before Christmas? Yes! Here's a Christmas card for you. Meet my sweet family. I do so love them. We have lots of fun traditions at this time of year. Most of which involve chocolate in some form. You can read about them here if you wish.

And we have guests? Which means this must be a party!

A party! A party! Please do come in, and keep your shoes on, by all means.

(I don't like it when I have to take off my shoes at people's houses for the following reasons:)

1)There is a good chance my socks are not matching or are in some type of disrepair.

2) If I take off my shoes my jeans will be too long and I will make a swishing sound wherever I go as they drag around on the floor. Not a glamourous swoosh, you understand, more a shoosh..shooosh. I have the shortest legs of any normal sized woman alive. Or at least any you know. I'm fairly confident of this. My legs are not much longer then those of my not yet eight year old daughter.

3)The shoes are part of the outfit. And one should never tamper with The Look.

(I don't like it when people take off their shoes at my house for the following reasons):
1) When they get home they will discover that their socks are black and it will be revealed that my hardwood floors are far dirtier then they look in the carefully orchestrated dirt-hiding dim "atmosphere lighting"

2. Number one was the only reason but I sensed there needed to be a list here.

Oh! Wait! My manners! Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Kirsty and I'll be your host today. Can I get you some hot-chocolate? Made in my long coveted new cocomotion?

What? Oh that. Yes, it's true. I have been involved in some scandal lately but I'm trying to move on. The paparazzi has been relentless though. I appreciate you respecting my privacy as I work through this.

If you want to know more about me before you eat my food, click here. Some of it is a little out of date but it's fascinating stuff people. FASCINATING. You really don't want to miss it. Trust me. Delusions of grandeur? I'm sure I don't know what you mean.

OK enough about all that. Who is hungry? Come! Sit. Isn't my table festive? Or Martha's table. Whatever.

Here! Try the most amazing dip ever. I got it from the piano teacher. It is So amazing that my gourmet cooking fancy friend Amy gave it the ultimate endorsement by giving it out as her friend and neighbour "treat plate" this year. With a side of lime chips. Upon tasting it I achieved nirvana. And now I share it with you. With love and complete disregard for calories.

The Nice Piano Teacher's "Mexicali Dip"
16 oz. sour cream
1/2 8 oz. package fine shredded cheese (usually cheddar or taco mix...something along those lines)
1/2 cup salsa
1 package dry vegetable soup mix
1/2 package taco mix
you can also mix in some dried onions and/or red pepper - whatever you want to use to spice it up.
It's best to make it at least a day in advance. That gives the the dry vegetables time to thicken the dip ...and it will be a little "juicy" at first. It takes a bit for it to thicken.

In the mood for something sweeter? Here's my mom's recipe for the manna from heaven which is

My Mom's Baie Lekker
(literal interpretation from Afrikaans: Very Yummy)

And it is. My husband bitterly informed me this week that when he took it to a company party he did not even get a chance to taste any before it was all gone. It uses ingredients you always have in your house and is excellent comfort food. I will include my mom's original recipe but translate some parts into American for you. Now we are having a cultural experience together. And I think that is special.

Baie Lekker (Very Yummy)

2 cups flour
2 cups milk
1/2 tsp. salt
2 eggs
2 cups sugar
2 tsps bicarbonate of soda
(baking soda)
2 tsp. vinegar
2 tbsp. syrup/apricot jam
Mix egg and milk into all dry ingredients. Mix well together.
Add syrup and vinegar and mix again.
Grease oven-proof dish. Do not fill higher then 2/3 from the top.
Bake at 180.
(350F) for 30-45 mins depending on size of dish.
Sauce:
1 cup Ideal Milk
(Evaporated milk)
2/3 cups of butter/margarine
1/4 cup hot water
1 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla essence.
Heat together and pour over pudding
(it doesn't look like "pudding" we call any dessert pudding) as soon as it comes out of the oven.
Serve with cream, ice-cream or custard.

After all this food, I encourage you to consider joining the Momedy Throwdown. Starting 1-1-2010!! It's going to be fun.

And now for the... PRESENT part of the party. The very stylish April Kennedy from Funky Vintage Kitchen has kindly provided this beautiful pair of her handmade earrings for one lucky commenter to win today. Ruffled Roses in Charcoal. How pretty would they look with...well..pretty much everything. Visit Funky Vintage Kitchen for all manner of lovely funky, vintage prettiness.

And I will be providing one lucky and perhaps stressed out reader with a bubble bath . This was my signature scent for the year.

And another lucky reader who chose to remove their shoes after all with some warm fuzzy socks. Such as these. Infused with shea butter even. Because when your feet are shea buttered, it is better.

Thank you so much for visiting!

I hope that you will decide that my blog is one that you want to read again on the strength of its wit, wisdom, originality and the weird European way with which I spell "favourite" and "colour" which makes you feel a bit exotic. (I'm South African! This fact alone should give you enough reason to stick around.) Also? I tend to crack (and ramble) under pressure. I would like another shot at impressing you with my aforementioned wit, warmth, wisdom and weirdness. Also my modesty. (It's important that you know that I never brag. Even though I am quite remarkable in many ways. I remain a paragon of modesty.)

{But in case all these compelling motivations fail to win you over, I am prepared to bribe. If I may direct your attention to the "beautiful people" mosaic in the middle column. Bless them. Every one. I love and adore them. Each one. And soon they shall be rewarded. When we reach 210 followers one of them gets $50! Will it be you?} BTW: The seemingly arbitrary 210 is in honour of the upcoming new decade. Note I don't even demand 2010 followers, although maybe I should expect these things and they will happen. Not sure. I never read The Secret. Anyway..carry on.

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night! Have a wonderful holiday. Take time to enjoy all those wonderful things that give us reason to blog :)

Fun post!
If you visit my house you will have to take your shoes off, it is custom after all... Plus it helps keep the red dirt out of the house. The good is youwon't need to worry about long pant issues out here; the bad is I'll worry about what the kids ate/created/ or otherwise messed that's still on the floor & you might step upon :P

I wouldn't dare try getting the house ready a week in advance. The kids would just have it completely undone by the next day. No, much better to wait and throw everything in closets, under beds (or your method--grocery bags) the day before, perhaps the day of if they are arriving late.

Good morning and happy SITS day! I never thought about the shoe thing. I do it to be polite...because I feel people don't want me tracking mud or dirt through their houses. I am very much enjoying your blog!

I live in an area where you are often expected to take off your shoes upon entering a home. Too often I forget beforehand and realize with dismay that my socks aren't up to snuff. Thanks for letting me keep my shoes on!

Happy SITS day!

Congratulations on your SITS Day! And yes I am one of those out reading blogs two days before Christmas (because really I should be working, but need a break)
You have so much in this post, giveaways, recipes, shoes and party stuff! I am going to go read around, as a mom of three boys myself, I think I may be sticking around!

How the heck have I not seen your blog before. I love it! So glad the SITS girls pointed it out today. Definitely adding it to my reader.

I'm having so much fun at the party and I kept my shoes on just for you! :D

Found you on SITS and ironically, I just got back from 4.5 months in South Africa...a beautiful country! :)

Oh, you are right about being featured right before Christmas! And a note: That stack of shoes is totally fictitious, because if kids left them there, none would match!

I hate taking my shoes off too, its just too creepy. I never ask people to take off their shoes. I really don't want to see or smell stinky feet.

I hear you on the jeans! My problem isn't that my legs are too short necessarily, but that they are too long for petite and too short for regular. So I either wear high waters or too-long pants.

Guess which I choose so as not to appear Urkleish.

I say this with the utmost respect and fondness . . . You're Nuts! But I love it. So many things I love in your post, but mainly the taking shoes off part.

My grandson used to run around our house in stocking feet. But after trying to get formerly white-socks-turned-black clean, he now must wear shoes at all times!

Hey, have a great SITS day. Thanks for the giggles.

Hi from SITS. You're hilarious. Love that Martha red and white table display. Love that you love Krispy Kreme. I found one in Tokyo (just arrived back and starting my recaps) and it was a glorious, calorie-filled, glazed puff of home. Have a Merry Christmas!

Jo said...

Hi, Kirsty--I'm Jo, visiting from SITS, of course.

I don't OWN SITS, by the way. Just thought I should clarify that.

Sheesh--get all technical on me why don't ya?

Now onto your weird medical thing (I actually took the time to read your '87 Things About Me' post: I am amused, enchanted, etc. ::Enter next adjective::): I have--are you ready for it?--'Glossopharyngeal Neuralgia'. Go figure.

Also just filed for bankruptcy (after losing our home of 16 years last year), am estranged from my 23 year old daughter and am highly neurotic and needy (think Woody Allen with boobs--frightening, eh?)--and my dirty little secret is that I'm somewhat smart so, I, like, um, totally get everything you wrote and I like.

Just thoguht I should get all my filthy, disgusting laundry aired and out in the open right away so we can move on to other topics.

I'm hoping we could be blog friends as I'm digging your blog, writing style and humor (yes, I said 'digging'--I'm also trying to bring 'groovy' back. It'll catch on.).

Finally, and without further adieu, congratulations on being todays featured SITS blogger. It is indeed well deserved.

Consider me a new follower--you may also consider me for a role in the next Clive Owen film but not sure how much clout you have so I'll just move on and wish you and yours a Merry Christmas.

Peace, love, happiness and health,
~Jo

Well happy SITS day to you! How cute are you? Love your blog. And I have bags and bags and BAGS of stuff hidden in my room that I promised myself I would put away as soon as the guests left. And I would recycle any of the paper not needed. And I would throw out anything I had duplicates (or octuplates) of. Yeah, never gonna happen. :)

I signed up to be a follower. Can't wait to read some more!

So I just read the rest of your blogs on this page and saw the quote from Pres Monson. I'm LDS too! Yay us! Somehow I missed all the LDS stuff on the right hand side of your screen! Silly me! How fun to find another LDS gal on SITS.

Kirsty....CONGRATS on being the FB for the day on SITS!! I LOVE your blog and will come back often. It's so nice to meet a fellow bouncer. (what my DH calls me when I'm posting...says my words make me sound happy and bouncey)

Merry Christmas to you and yours and the very best holiday wishes.

Hugs from a fellow SITSta, Regi

Congrats on being today's featured blogger! I hope you get all the comment love you deserve, even though it's so close to Christmas. Everyone needs a computer break, right?

Happy SITS Day! I hate having to take shoes off at others' houses too. I never realized before you wrote it here but yes, having the jeans be a few inches too short is annoying and makes you feel shrimpy. I also don't always have my feet (or especially my kids' feet) ready for public viewing...

Cluttered Brain said...

Really? You are giving me all this? WOW! (Psst. I don't really like taking my shoes off at people's house anyway--socks might not match OR they might be holey. :)
I'm hungry now. My computer is broken and can't accept food virtually yet. DARN! I'll just have to make those yummy dips myself. They sounds heavenly. I've been making fudge and other goodies lately. I haven't been commenting much on the FB lately--you know it being Christmas and all but I decided to click today. AND I am glad I did! YOU sound AWESOME! I read your info about you, and found out YOU are LDS? No way?! Me TOO! *jumping up and down and high fiving you* YES! I LOVE meeting fellow Mormon bloggers! I am going to be a follower for sure. (You might also want tno do the same, because in Jan. I am having an opportunity to review Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs...You know the movie? Very fun. It was a book before the movie of course--cute book. Any-hoo, Sony Home Entertainment might give me the movie to giveaway to my readers...Exciting huh? YEAH!!!
Okay. It's Christmas. I have to go spend some time with the family. LONGEST Comment in history huh? I feel like we can have a great blogger relationship...YAHOO. After all this Christmas mess and SITS mess dies down I hope you will stop by my blog...:) Merry christmas to you and your CUTE family....My blog address is http://oneclutteredbrain.blogspot.com

Hey, I didn't have internet connection yesterday, so happy SITS day a day late! Love the blog-- I'm a follower now. I think we have a lot in common-- come check me out, too.

So my house is DEFINITELY not gleaming today (or any other) because we are in the process of having the carpeting (ungodly old and grungy) replaced, so the chaos is worse than ever. They are actually nearly done, so I should be putting things away, but I SO needed a blog-break! Yay-- I found YOU!

Thanks for the entertainment!

I totally laughed hysterically when I read your reasons for not wanting to take your shoes off and not wanting others to take their shoes off when visiting your house. I've actually had friends mention how black their socks are from being shoeless in my home. Nice friends, huh? I should tell them that they're more than welcome to sweep and mop my floors if it bothers that much or better yet HOST THE PLAYDATE AT THEIR OWN HOMES!!

Love your sense of humor...we're gonna get along just swimmingly (now, name that movie!!)
